The Prestige: Revenge

**Spoiler Warning**

In the movie The Prestige a lot of the characters’ motives are driven by revenge. Hugh Jackman’s character loses his wive in a stage accident and blames Christian Bale’s character, he then spends the rest of his life trying to get back at him – by stealing his acts, trying to kill him and framing him for his “death”. Borden in return tries to jeprodise Angier’s reputation and turns their mentor against him.

In the current context the world finds itself in – one of war, hate and disrespect – it becomes clear to us that revenge isn’t solving anything:  with whatever war Bush is planning next, just dividing countries even further.

As I realised once again in the past weeks: the situation is pretty much the same in the church, with people acting out of envy for eachother – not realising that we are here to act as an example of what Christ would have done, not act out of revenge but laying His life down for people who didn’t deserve His grace.

As a child of God there is no place for me to act out of revenge, but oh! it’s so difficult not to do.  May the Lord help us to turn the other cheeck and to act in love towards other people – whether they know the Lord’s grace or not.

    Hi

Revenge is pretty much everywhere, so there’s no escaping it. Around every corner one will find it.

In the Bible we find two things, don’t know where it’s written but it’s there.

    1. Turn the other cheek.
    2. An eye for an eye.

If you look carefully you will notice that number 2 sounds so much more fair. So much more easier than letting someone else allow you to hurt you again. But since when is life fair? Since when do we let another hurt us right back in an unwounded place (be it in our hearts or on our faces).

These two things are totally opposite. But in every Christians heart there is the desire to turn the other cheek and to love their enemies, yet it’s the deed that counts and not the desire.

Let us rather love, than take back that which was taken from us. However difficult it may be. God is there with us. That’s something we must never forget. So whenever the thought of revenge is racing through your mind, remember this W.W.J.D. (What Will Jesus Do?)

    Blessings :-)

    Me again

Last night (13 February) on the news at the end there was an article about Valentines day. The article was written about a woman who sells dead flowers for people to give to anyone who has hurt them (in the context of guys and girls breaking up, cheating on each other etc).

When I saw that I immediately thought about what I have written in my previous comment and I told my mom about it as well.

But now the question remains, why do we have the need for revenge? Why do we want to hurt someone who hurt us and by that create a neverending circle of pain?

Is it that we just can’t accept the fact that everyone is different?

Somewhere the pain has to stop. Somewhere the act of getting back at people must be brougth forward exactly for what it is. Pointless.

How can we feel better when we hurt someone that hurt us? When you fight fire with fire, you only get a bigger fire.

Religion is for those who are too lazy handle up their own destiny… A huge lack of self-esteem and consciousness.
